2017: In Review

2017: A Year in Review

I know that for most fans, 2017 felt like a very quiet year for Tom Hiddleston. But the man kept himself very busy with two blockbuster film releases, a return to theatre, continued dedication to charity work, and he still had time to win an award or two. Let's take a look back!

Awards

In January, Tom was at the Golden Globe Awards. The event had a hilarious start with actress, Nicole Kidman, crashing Tom's red carpet interview.

There was a lot of criticism for Tom's speech but it made a huge impact to the organizations he dedicated the award to. If it weren't for Tom a great number of people wouldn't even know that South Sudan was a country.  There was a huge surge in donations to the Unicef UK fundraiser and eventually we raised over £15,000!

In April, Tom took home two trophies at the Empire Awards in London. Tom won the Hero Award and Best Series Award for The Night Manager (along with Hugh Laurie).

In December, Tom won the prestigious Most Stylish Man of 2017 title from GQ Magazine. As voted on by the fans!

Back to School

Tom helped raise money for two of his old schools, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and the Dragon School in Oxford.

In MarchTom stopped by his alma mater, RADA, to host a special screening of Kong: Skull Island. Little did we know then that Tom would be returning to RADA again later in 2017 to perform!

In September, Tom Hiddleston took part in a special charity run of Hamlet to aid RADA's Attenborough Campaign. The play was directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh and the cast was comprised of current/former RADA students. The play scored rave reviews for it's very intimate set up. This was a very exclusive event with only 21 performances in total (in a small, 160 seat theatre).

In December, Tom recorded Hamlet's famous soliloquy for the Dragon School. This was included in an audio CD sold during their Annual Dragon Sale

Gucci, Gucci, Gucci

Tom Hiddleston was announced as the face of Gucci's Tailoring campaign in 2016 and that collaboration continued into 2017.

In February, Tom headed to Italy to sit front row at Gucci's 2017 F/W show and hit up the after party.

Gucci provided all of Tom's new suits/tuxedos for his promo tours and appearances.

Kong: Skull Island

Kong: Skull Island was released in March 2017 and exceeded box office expectations to gross $566 million worldwide! Kong was a very international movie with film locations in Hawaii, Australia, and Vietnam, The cast had an equally international press tour to promote the film with stops in London, Mexico, Japan, China, and the US. Some highlights from the promo tour:

Photoshoots

In February, Tom kicked off his birthday month with a GQ Magazine Cover.  This was voted favorite 2017 Tom Hiddleston photoshoot by the fans.

In March, Tom posed with his stylist, Ilaria Urbinati for The Hollywood Reporter.

In April, photographs taken by Kurt Iswarienko were used for European promotion.

In November, Tom Hiddleston was on the cover of Style Magazine Italia.

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok was one of the highest-grossing and best reviewed films of 2017! It has already grossed more than $844 million world wide. Due to filming commitments for Infinity War there weren't many promo appearances but that didn't stop the cast from having a little fun.

What's In Store For 2018

Early Man:  The film releases Janaury 26, 2018 in the UK and February 16, 2018 in the US. I am hoping to see some more Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston red carpet love.

Infinity War: Loki had about one second in the Infinity War trailer but it was enough to see that he will be an important part of the next film. Infinity War releases May 4, 2018 in the US (earlier in other countries)

Non-confirmed Upcoming Projects that hopefully we will hear more about next year:
  • The Night Manager series 2
  • Hard Boiled with Ben Wheatley
  • Tom's South Sudan documentary

WFTV Awards (2016)

December 2, 2016:

Tom Hiddleston attended the Women in Film and Television Awards at the London Hilton. The WFTV Awards celebrate the most talented women in UK film, TV, and digital media. Tom was on hand to present Amanda Nevill with the Business Award. Amanda Nevill is the Chief Executive Officer of the British Film Institute (BFI) and Tom was named their first ambassador in 2015. During his speech, Tom made sure to show is support for gender equality by stating: So may I just say, equal pay? Let's sort it out! The arts are for everyone.

The audience was very disappointed when Tom decided to keep his trousers on!

Several other famous men showed their support for the WFTV Awards. Mark Gatiss presented the Writing Award to Julia Davis, Benedict Cumberbatch presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Beryl Vertue, and Ben Wheatley presented the Creative Technology Award to Sara Bennett.

Fashion:

The focus was all on the incredible women at this event so Tom kept it simple in a navy tuxedo from Gucci.
