US Open (2019)

August 26, 2019:

It's a British Invasion at the US Open! The Betrayal cast must've been well-rested after their day off on Sunday because they made a day trip to Queens to take in some tennis. If they really wanted to keep it on brand they should have gone to a squash game. Eddie Arnold, Zawe Ashton, and Tom Hiddleston watched the first round match between Johanna Konta and Daria Kasatkina. Konta, also representing Great Britain, won the match in three sets.

Team Brits seem very excited about the match result...

Tom proved to be a good luck charm for Konta, who hadn't won a US Open match since 2016. She talked about recently meeting him during the post-match interview:

"I had a lot of great support in the box. It was great. I did the Good Samaritan thing and said, 'Don't bother him, he's obviously busy'. But then he actually said, 'Oh I don't usually do this, but I'm a massive fan' and I was like, "Wait, who? What? Who else is here?'". It was basically that, and then we got chatting. He's super nice, and his co-stars came as well, and they're super nice as well."

You can watch highlights from the match here:

You can see Tom cheering. (Yes I made a gif)

It is interesting to see Tom on Day One of the US Open since we usually only see him at later rounds and Champions matches... perhaps we will see Tom later on supporting his new bff or keeping his Novak Djokovic streak alive?

Tom previously attended the US Open in 2011 while he is was in NYC filming The Avengers. Kimberly Snyder shared a picture on her social media. That picture has since been deleted so I won't post it here but I'm sure you can find it on the internet if you wanted. Tom was frequently photographed wearing his US Open hat until 2017/2018 (he even brought it to Wimbledon which idk could be bad etiquette). Hopefully he picks up a new hat this year.

PS: Tom also shared his morning breakfast read on Instagram. Please try not to get any coffee stains on your face. :)

September 1:

Tom Hiddleston continued to be Johanna Konta's Loki charm. Tom and Zawe Ashton took advantage of another day off from Betrayal Broadway to watch Konta in the US Open.

I relate to this picture of Zawe on a spiritual level.

And it was well worth the trip. Johanna Konta defeated No. 3 Karolina Pliskova for a historic place in the quarter-finals. Konta is the first female British tennis player to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open since 1983. That's longer than I've been alive.

Hype Man Tom.

Someone give the camera person a raise. They were hitting all the angles.

September 3, 2019:

Tom Hiddleston went casual and Betrayal-free for his third US Open match of the tournament.  Castmate-free at least, he still brought along Robert's sweater which must have felt much more comfortable to wear than a suit in the nearly 90° heat.

Tom Hiddleston out there every match for Jo Konta is the kind of supportive energy we all need in our lives. I recorded this clip off of ESPN. The amount of time's the mentioned and/or showed Tom on the television you would've thought he was her coach.

Unfortunately, the Loki charm ran out of magic and Konta lost to Elina Svitolina in straight sets. Maybe Zawe who was the real charm? But it was a great run Jo!

Fashion:

Thanks to my tennis bff Coco Gauff, we got a much better look at what Tom Hiddleston was wearing. He was much more casual than originally thought. Ralph Lauren is the official outfitter of the US Open (as well as Wimbledon) so of course he wore his Ralph Lauren suit jacket. He paired it with a RL linen shirt and jeans.

Tom was back in his Ralph Lauren Polo suit for his second outing (The full suit this time). And dug out his striped shirt from the Infinity War Fan Event in London... which means I have an excuse to repost this picture.

ps: Zawe's adorable green dress is from Maggie Marilyn - which I only know because she work it during stage door one day and I loved it so much I had to ask her stylist (Steph Wilson) about it. Maggie Marilyn is a New Zealand based, sustainable clothing company.
