Olivier Awards (2014)

April 13, 2014:

In his first red carpet event of 2014, Tom Hiddleston attended the Olivier Awards at the Royal Opera House in London. Tom was in the midst of filming Crimson Peak. Is it just me or do some of his red carpet pictures have an eerie aura to them???? Perhaps it's just the heavy makeup.

He was nominated as Best Actor for his title role in Coriolanus. The NTLive Trailer for Coriolanus.

Tom interviewed on the red carpet talking about why he keeps coming back to Shakespeare:

"I genuinely think it's because it's the most challenging work. Shakespeare's greatest tragedians are the most complex. Well, his tragic heroes or his villains - Coriolanus if kind of an anti-hero. Psychologically they are very, very complex, and physically and emotionally. So as an actor you're being asked to bring everything you have to the table... "

On future West End plans: "London theatre is incredibly close to my heart. It's where I began. The first four or five years of my acting life were on the boards in London - in the West End and off the West End. So, I hope that over however long I'm allowed that act that it will be a place I can always return to and do interesting work, and keep growing as an actor. And hopefully the audiences will keep enjoying it."

Ultimately, Best Actor went to Rory Kinnear. Tom was sure to congratulate his The Hollow Crown costar on his win!

Fashion:

Tom wore a classic black peak lapel tuxedo from Alexander McQueen with patent leather shoes from Mr. Hare. He was rumored to also be wearing skull cuff links from McQueen but I have yet to find a good picture showing them.
